Auckland Badminton Association (ABA) Board has announced that its General Manager, John McGregor, has resigned from his employment with ABA to seek new opportunities.
One of McGregor’s significant accomplishments during his tenure was overseeing the major renovation of Badminton Hall on Gillies Avenue in 2016 and 2017. This upgrade transformed the facility, enabling ABA to successfully host the World Masters Games in April 2017, a prestigious event that showcased Auckland as a badminton destination.
In recent years, McGregor focused on expanding ABA’s reach by working closely with the development team to integrate a larger number of schools into ABA’s programs. This expansion saw the association establish new venues across the region, providing greater access to badminton for young players.
During his tenure, ABA has built a strong financial foundation, positioning the organization well for future growth as it prepares to review and revitalize its strategic plan.
“We would like to thank John for his leadership over the past 12 years, and we look forward to building on the strong foundation he’s helped create,” said Kim Calvert, Chair of the ABA Board.
The ABA Board will soon provide an update on its short-term plans for managing the organisation and will begin the recruitment process for a new General Manager. In the interim, David Ball will oversee finance-related queries, and Tony Naidu will manage operations and development programs.
With a strong base, and growing player numbers, ABA looks toward the future with confidence.
