Tyler Dreaver Wins Triple Crown at New Zealand U13 & U17 National Championships


Tyler Dreaver delivered an exceptional performance at the 2024 New Zealand U13 & U17 National Badminton Championships, winning three titles across Boys’ Singles, Boys’ Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, marking a rare triple crown achievement.

Dreaver’s road to victory in the Boys’ Singles was marked by precision and resilience. In the final, he faced Alex Zhang in a thrilling three-set match. After a close 22-20 win in the first set, Dreaver faltered in the second, losing 10-21. However, he regained control in the deciding set, taking it 21-13 to seal the championship.

In Boys’ Doubles, Dreaver partnered with Jayson Yang (CMBA) , and the pair proved unstoppable. In a hard-fought final against the top-seeded Mang Hao Ethan Yu and Alex Zhang, Dreaver and Yang secured a 17-21, 22-20 victory. Their teamwork and resilience during critical moments helped them claw back from the edge of defeat to claim the title in an exciting finish.

Dreaver’s third title came in Mixed Doubles with partner Amy Zhang. In the final, they faced off against the top-seeded duo of Mang Hao Ethan Yu and Jennie Liang. After losing the first set 15-21, Dreaver and Zhang responded strongly, taking the second set 21-14 and dominating the third 21-11 to win the match. Their aggressive attacking play and defensive coordination were key factors in overcoming their opponents.

Tyler Dreaver’s triple crown victory is a clear testament to his burgeoning talent and potential. His victories in three different categories reflect not only his technical abilities but also his mental toughness. With continued guidance from his coaches and his unwavering dedication, Dreaver is expected to remain a key figure in New Zealand badminton as he progresses through the ranks.
