The Auckland Badminton Association is proud to announce the appointment of Hamish Meacheam as its new General Manager. With a deep passion for sport and extensive experience across both community and high performance, Hamish is set to drive the association forward so it can strengthen and grow badminton in our community.

Hamish brings a wealth of expertise to the role, with a strong background in sports administration, community engagement and strategic leadership. His most recent role has been in Local Government, where he led changes to Community Investment at the South Waikato District Council.

Prior to this Hamish has worked for almost two decades in Sports Administration, including roles as the CEO of Disability Sport Auckland, Community Manager of Athletics NZ, experience working for a Regional Sports Trust, and an NCAA Division I University.

Attending Lamar University in Texas, Hamish completed his Bachelor of Business Administration, building on his Certificate in Sport Science from Wintec, and completed the Sport NZ Future Leaders programme while at Athletics New Zealand.

In addition to his professional roles in sport, Hamish has coached a number of professional and high-performance athletes and currently serves on the board of Judo New Zealand.

“We are thrilled to welcome Hamish Meacheam as our new General Manager,” said Kim Calvert, Chair of the Auckland Badminton Association. “Hamish’s leadership style and vision for the future of badminton in Auckland stood out among a highly competitive field of candidates. We are confident that under his guidance, the sport will continue to flourish and reach new heights in our community.”

As General Manager, Hamish has expressed a commitment to improving the quality of experience for all players involved in Auckland Badminton programmes, teams and events while strengthening the Association’s relationships with stakeholders, sponsors, and the wider Auckland community.

“I am honoured to take on this role and contribute to the growth of badminton in Auckland,” said Hamish Meacheam. “The sport has a unique ability to bring people together, inspire individuals, and create lifelong connections. I look forward to working with the Board, staff, and our incredible badminton community to make the sport more accessible, inclusive, and successful than ever before.”

Hamish will be starting his role in February, with an initial focus on connecting with the community, before mapping out an operational plan to align with the Association’s current Strategic Plan.
