Introducing Nathan Maisey – ABA’s New Pathways and Performance Lead

Auckland Badminton Association is pleased to welcome Nathan Maisey to the team as our new Pathways and Performance Lead.

Nathan joins us with a strong background in sport and recreation, having completed his Bachelor of Sport and Recreation at Unitec in 2020, majoring in Facility Management with a minor in Coaching. He brings a well-rounded mix of sporting experience and operational expertise to the role.

In this newly established position, Nathan will take the lead on a number of key projects and workstreams. He’ll be responsible for managing our network of contracted coaches delivering community programmes such as after-school clubs, holiday programmes and Triumph Academy. He will also play a vital role in supporting our performance and representative teams, ensuring our systems and processes are robust, efficient and athlete-focused.

Nathan will lead planning and operations for flagship events like Wisden Cup and the New Zealand Junior Team Championships, helping ensure our teams are well-prepared and supported.

Prior to joining ABA, Nathan spent six years at AUT Millennium, most recently as Asset Manager and Systems Coordinator. His work included system improvements, software upgrades for operational efficiency, and close collaboration with national sports organisations based on-site. He also coordinated high-performance training camps for New Zealand Football, the Silver Ferns, and the Black Ferns.

A passionate sportsman himself, Nathan currently plays football for East Coast Bays’ Premier Men’s team in the Northern League and has a lifelong love of sport.

Nathan brings energy, experience, and a collaborative mindset to ABA, and we’re excited to have him on board as we continue to grow our programmes and pathways.

Welcome to the team, Nathan!
