Results of the first UTSNZ National Tertiary Badminton Championships

A great tournament on Sunday May 22nd at the Auckland Badminton Hall 99 Gillies Ave, Epsom, Auckland which saw 7 Universities from around NZ taking part in an exciting University tournament with one top team from each University.  The program saw many of NZs leading players taking part in what were some dynamic fast and tough matches.  Sarah Anderson (Executive Director) University and Tertiary Sport NZ was on hand to assess the event and is building the event across a number of sports nationally.  Universities earn points for the wider University sports competition.  The winners also get the Robson University Shield donated by Halberg Lifetime Award Winners Jeff and Heather Robson on behalf of the Robson Family.  The shield this year was presented by Jeff Robson. These events are key to help develop and grow the 17 to 25 year age group that so often falls off in terms of taking part in sport.

The results were

1st University of Auckland (20 points)

2nd Massey University (14 points)

3rd Waikato University of Waikato (10 points)

4th University of Victoria Wellington (3 points)

5th Auckland University of Technology (3 points)

6th  University of Otago (3 points)

7th University of Canterbury (3points)
